Middle School Rowing

Program Structure

Middle School Rowing via the TCAPS LEAP program is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. Athletes will be trained and matched into boats based on size, technique retention and athletic ability.

The middle school season will run for five Saturday mornings. Rowers will spend about two hours on the water each day. At the start of each practice we will talk about what we plan to learn and group the kids in to their boats. After each row we recap what was learned, discuss what went well and what we need to work on the next day.

We welcome you to sit on the lawn or at the beach and enjoy lunch after practice if you’d like to bring one with you. There will also be a food truck on property if you’d like to purchase lunch.

Registration is limited to 18 student athletes.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement is important to our success. Due to the weight of a 60ft. boat, parents are asked to help the kids get their equipment down to the docks before practice and back to the racks after practice. Parents are also invited to attend and observe all practices, but may not interfere with a coach’s ability to conduct practice.

For those parents who would like to try rowing, we recommend taking a learn 2 row class. We also offer a group rowing program throughout the season for those who want to continue or possible compete.
